Cody has to finish his story! (From one of the Cody’s crybabies)
Cody is the son of Dusty Rhodes, a former professional wrestler nicknamed ‘The American Dream’ who was a top attraction in the past. Dusty worked for Jim Crocket Promotions and was one of the masterminds of professional wrestling.
However, Dusty never managed to become WWE World Champion, the most popular wrestling company in the world. Although he did manage to become a monarch in the NWA, he never achieved it in McMahon’s company.
The only time Rhodes managed to compete for this belt was at Madison Square Garden, on September 26, 1977. At that event, Dusty defeated Billy Graham for the world championship. However, it was by count out outside the ring (according to wrestling rules, when a title match ends this way, the belt does not change hands).
Since Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE in 2022, he said that he had only one clear objective: “to finish the story”, a motto that he has proclaimed to this day and that is WWE’s main promotional agent on the way to WrestleMania 40, but not everyone know that this story is not entirely his, but rather his father’s.
Cody Rhodes’ personal goal is to win the championship from Roman Reigns (nowadays’ great champion). Before becoming WWE’s most popular ‘babyface’, Cody spent years in other promotions such as NWA, where he managed to win the world championship gold, the same one that his father held during the 80s. Still, the only way to honor his father is with this belt that, according to Cody; “It has always been denied to me and my family, but finally, after so many years, I will achieve it. And I will do it for you, for me and for my father.”
His opponent Roman Reigns reached 1,000 days as maximum champion and is close to 1,300 (it is already the fourth longest reign in history), but Cody won the Royal Rumble again and targeted the ‘Tribal Chief’ as his goal to make proud his father by finally winning the championship he had always wanted since he started in the wrestling industry.
